Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that concentrates on the alignment of the teeth and jaws. Treatment makes the best of your natural teeth and normally takes between 12 and 24 months to complete. Once your teeth and jaws are better aligned you will be able to smile with confidence – for life. There are health benefits for having orthodontic treatment to help straighten your teeth. Reaching the harmful bacterial plaque that builds up on teeth and causes gum disease is more difficult if the teeth are crooked or overlap - straight teeth can be easier to clean.

There’s no substitute for your natural teeth and braces are the best way to achieve a desirable smile, naturally. Patients receive specialist treatment that is tailor-made for them taking into account their wishes.
But what can you expect from your first consultation? Your initial consultation is carried out by specialist orthodontist Mr Guy Atherton, who will thoroughly examine your mouth, teeth and bite. He will discuss what you like and dislike about your teeth and what can be achieved to give you the smile you desire. You will be able to discuss your options and have a look at the different braces available. A full written treatment plan will be supplied, which will include an estimate of the costs. This first appointment costs £85.
What happens next is up to you. Some people decide to go ahead with treatment straight away while others take time to ponder their options. Patients are welcome to come back for another chat, at no extra charge. When you are ready to go ahead, a second appointment is arranged - all consultations from now on are part of the overall charge. Impressions for models of your teeth, along with photos and x-rays will be taken. This second appointment normally takes around 20 minutes.
Whether private or NHS, you will receive a first class service from a small and committed team. In order to receive treatment through the NHS, patients have to be under 18 years of age and fulfil strict criteria, please click here for more information. There may be a waiting list and there are restricted appointment times.
There are a number of benefits to becoming a private patient. Our private patients can get started with their treatment as soon as they wish. There are no age restrictions or waiting lists and private patients can opt for appointment times that fit into their schedules. You will also be able to choose from a variety of different braces which include tooth-coloured and invisible varieties that only you will know you’re wearing.
